"...The sparkle of crystal and the delicacy of facets...". Russian glass of the 18th – early 20th centuries
About exhibition
Carving, grinding, engraving — techniques of cold glassworking that demand experience, virtuosity and jeweler-like precision from the craftsman. The exhibition aims to show the evolution of the art of glass carving in Imperial Russia, as well as the variety of methods used for mechanically treating glass surfaces. The chronological scope covers the emergence in the 18th century of the first industrial glassworks up to the 1917 Revolution. The exhibition will mainly feature works from the Imperial Glassworks — the country's leading enterprise, whose activity determined the main trends in the development of glassmaking in the Russian Empire.
