About museum
Visiting the museum allows you to immerse yourself in the world of spirituality and Orthodoxy and to connect with the history and spiritual life of our city.
The museum is dedicated to the former Leningrad metropolitans who were expelled from the Holy Trinity Alexander Nevsky Lavra in the second half of the 20th century. The visit begins in the room that houses the Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, founded by Metropolitan Nicodim (Rotov). The first hall is devoted to His Holiness Alexy II, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. Here you can see a gift from His Holiness — the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God — as well as personal photographs from His archive. Visitors can also view the orders and medals of the Russian Orthodox Church, along with the Patriarch’s personal belongings. The second hall features rare photographs of Metropolitan Nicodim (Rotov) and his personal items. A visit to the museum offers an opportunity to delve into the world of spirituality and Orthodoxy and to appreciate the history and spiritual life of Leningrad.
