Diorama Museum 'The Battle of Kursk. Belgorod Direction'
About museum
The Belgorod State Historical and Art Museum-Diorama 'The Battle of Kursk. Belgorod Direction' is Belgorod's main military heritage site and an attraction for experts and enthusiasts of military history. It is visited by more than 160,000 people annually. The main exhibit — the diorama 'The Fiery Arc' — is a gigantic work of art depicting the decisive clash on the Kursk salient in 1943. It has an area of 1,005 sq. m (length — 67 m, height — 15 m), and its painting took 2 years to complete. Battle-scene painters and the only Grekov Studio of Military Artists in Russia worked on it, receiving consultations from veterans who participated in the battle. Many of the figures on the diorama are historically accurate and resemble real participants. Visitors view it from an observation platform, which makes them involuntary participants in the battle. In the museum's two halls one can find weapons, awards, personal items, documents, and photographs of battle participants. The cinema hall shows the documentary-publicistic film 'On Scorched Earth'.
