Vyshny Volochyok Local History Museum named after G.G. Monakhova
About museum
The museum in Vyshny Volochyok was founded on November 7, 1932, and began its work based on the collections of the Real School, where materials on the geology, flora, and fauna of the region were gathered. Since 1947 the museum has maintained an accession book for the main collection, and professional scientific work with local history materials began. In 1977 the Vyshny Volochyok museum became a branch of the Tver State United Museum, and in 1983 its reconstruction began. On May 8, 2005 the museum reopened in restored premises with an area increased fourfold and with specially equipped storage facilities and exhibition halls. Permanent exhibitions presented here include: 'Vyshny Volochyok Water System', 'Nature of the Vyshny Volochyok Region', an art gallery, 'The Town at the Turn of the 19th–20th Centuries', 'Archaeological Antiquities of the Vyshny Volochyok Lands', 'The Vyshny Volochyok Region during the Great Patriotic War'. The museum also has an open storage where a collection of Vyshny Volochyok domestic and art glass from the 19th–21st centuries is displayed, comprising more than 600 items.
