Solvychegodsk Historical and Art Museum
About museum
The Annunciation Cathedral is an architectural monument of federal significance that served as the house church of the Stroganov family in 1560–1584 and in the 19th century. It houses the permanent exhibition "Artistic Heritage of Old Solvychegodsk." In the cathedral's summer church you can see unique fresco paintings from 1507–1601 and a preserved 17th-century interior. Visitors can climb the bell tower and inspect the cellars adjoining the cathedral. The museum collection was formed using the treasures of the Annunciation Cathedral's sacristy as well as items from other churches of the town and district. In 1921 the museum acquired works by Russian artists and interior furnishings from the State Museum Fund. During the 1930s–1940s valuable items were gathered from churches in Solvychegodsk and the district that were being closed. The collections of the Solvychegodsk Museum represent highly artistic monuments of Old Russian painting and decorative-applied arts.
