About museum

In Vyazma there is one of the richest museums in the Smolensk region. The first museum was opened in 1812 under the direction of Ekaterina Nikolaevna Kletnova, an ethnographer, archaeologist and local historian. In 1970 the modern historical and local history museum was founded thanks to the efforts of local-history teachers Panteleimon Mikhailovich Zaporin and Stepan Ilyich Borisov, who followed E. N. Kletnova's idea that a true citizen should love his homeland. Here you can see rare exhibits, learn about the main events of Russia's history and discover the heroic history of Vyazma — a City of Military Glory.
