About museum

The local history museum in Ustyuzhna was opened in 1921 and has been housed since 1936 in the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Theotokos. The museum contains three departments: historical, art, and exhibition. The history department introduces visitors to the region's history from the 11th century to the early 20th century. In the art department you can see canvases by I. K. Aivazovsky, B. M. Kustodiev, K. Ya. Kryzhitsky, Yu. Yu. Klever and other artists. The museum also features the exhibition 'Birds and Animals of Our Region' and organizes exhibitions on various themes. Special attention is deserved by the hall of Old Russian painting with a memorial 17th-century iconostasis made by craftsmen of the Moscow Armory Chamber. The museum invites visitors to discover the beauty and richness of Ustyuzhna's history and culture.
