The Decembrists Museum of the A.K. Kuznetsov Transbaikal Regional Museum of Local Lore was opened in 1985 in the former Old-Chita Mikhailo-Archangel Church. It houses more than 870 items divided into exhibitions: "Prerequisites for the emergence of secret societies", "The uprising in Petersburg", "The uprising of the Chernigov Regiment", "Investigation, trial, sentence", "The route to Siberia", "Decembrists in penal servitude", "Decembrists in exile in the Transbaikal region", "Wives of the Decembrists in Siberia", "Decembrists after the amnesty", "History of the Decembrists' church." The museum's collection includes books that belonged to the Decembrists, lifetime editions of their works, authentic relics, household and penal items, as well as works of visual art. The museum hosts Decembrist evenings and publishes catalogs and brochures. A visit provides a comprehensive picture of the lives and activities of the Decembrists.
