About museum
The Neryungri Museum of the History of the Development of Southern Yakutia named after I. I. Pyankov was founded on October 13, 1976, at the initiative of the city committee of the CPSU. L. I. Pershko became the museum's director and led it for 20 years. In 1981 the museum became a branch of the Yakut State United Museum of the History and Culture of the Peoples of the North named after Em. Yaroslavsky. In 1991 the museum's funding was transferred to the local budget of the city of Neryungri. In 1995 the museum was renamed in honor of the 20th anniversary of the city's founding and received the name of Ivan Ivanovich Pyankov, who made a major contribution to the development of the museum. Thus, the museum came to perpetuate the history of the development of Southern Yakutia.
