Verkhoshizhemsky District Local History Museum named after Alexander Zaitsev
About museum
Verkhoshizhemsky Local History Museum was founded on February 26, 1972, and began its activities without a permanent building. To popularize local history and culture, a page titled "Know and Love Your Region" was created in the district newspaper. On February 3, 1978, the museum was opened to visitors in two halls of the Pioneers' House, where about 1,000 exhibits and 300 photographs were displayed. In 1992 the museum received the status of a state institution and was moved into a renovated building of the former nursery. In 1998 it was named after Alexander Nikolaevich Zaitsev. Today the Verkhoshizhemsky Local History Museum named after Alexander Zaitsev is located in the house of the district magistrate's officer (stanovoy pristav), built in 1897, and has more than 8,000 exhibits. It attracts about 7,000 visitors a year. The museum's exhibitions acquaint visitors with the everyday life and history of the region, its flora and fauna, milestones in the district's development, and the labor and military feats of local residents.
