\r\nThe National Museum of the Republic of Bashkortostan is a scientific and methodological center of museology, founded on April 23, 1864 at the Statistical Committee of the Orenburg Governorate with the active participation of Governor G. S. Aksakov. Visitors are received here daily, and educational classes and active scientific research are also conducted. In 2001–2004 the building underwent major repairs and restoration, and a new exhibition was developed and installed. The museum houses more than 190,000 exhibits that tell about the region's nature, history, culture, and peoples. Every year archaeological and ethnographic expeditions are carried out here, and work is underway to replenish the collection holdings. The National Museum is one of the most important historical and cultural assets of the republic.
