The historical and natural museum-reserve of P. P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky was opened on August 25, 1997 in Chaplyginsky District in the village of Urusova, five km from the district center. The exhibition is dedicated to the outstanding traveler, geographer, public and statesman of Russia P. P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky and his family, which produced many prominent scientists and writers. The manor house was built to a design by Petr Nikolaevich Semenov in 1830 and has retained its original appearance. In 12 halls there is an exhibition that tells about the life and activities of P. P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky. The museum displays memorial items belonging to him and his relatives, as well as an entomological collection, rock specimens brought from the Tien Shan, the scientific works of Petr Petrovich and the Semenov family piano. In addition, around the estate there is a landscape park laid out in the 1830s containing more than 100 tree and shrub species. It is a wonderful place for recreation and for studying the history of Russia.
