Alapaevsk Metallurgical Plant History Museum
About museum
The Alapaevsk Metallurgical Plant History Museum opened on May 7, 1985 for the 40th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The collections were formed with active assistance from plant workers and Alapaevsk local historians. Initially, the core of the exhibition consisted of authentic items from the Great Patriotic War: soldiers' and officers' uniforms, letters from the front, award documents, death notices and letters.
In 1994, on the 290th anniversary of the Alapaevsk Metallurgical Plant, the museum opened a historical hall with an exhibition telling the history of the town's oldest town-forming enterprise. Here you can see a model of the pig-iron smelting and ironmaking plant, a model of the first turbine invented by I.E. Sofonov, old books, photographs and original documents.
Today the museum has permanent exhibitions "Alapaevsk — to the Front" and "City-Factory".
The "City-Factory" exhibition tells the history of Alapaevsk's town-forming enterprise. Since 1704 the metallurgical plant has been the heart of the town. Here you can see one of the hammer-forge factories — the oldest industrial architecture building in the Urals, which is a protected monument.
The "Alapaevsk — to the Front" exhibition occupies a separate hall. Thematic lectures are held here: "Frontline Fates of Compatriots", "Wait for Me, or Pain and Joy in Soldiers' Letters" and others.
The youngest visitors learn the history of the samovar and the origin of the clay pot, and become acquainted with Hephaestus and his successors.
