Vereshchagin Memorial House-Museum
About museum
There is the world's only house-museum of the Vereshchagin family, in which, in the 19th century, the leader of the district nobility lived. In this family were born Nikolai Vereshchagin, the founder of the dairy industry in Russia, and Vasily Vereshchagin, a famous Russian painter. In the 1850s the house was sold to a local merchant who rented part of the premises to tenants. Then, in the 1950s–1960s, communal apartments were located here, and in 1984 the house was transferred to the museum. The interior was carefully recreated based on the memories of Vasily Vereshchagin. On the museum grounds one can see an apothecary garden and a carriage shed. This house-museum is unique and commemorates the famous family.
