Municipal Historical and Local Lore Museum of the Ust-Labinsky District
About museum
The Municipal Historical and Local Lore Museum of the Ust-Labinsky District has a long history. In the 1920s local historian Mikhail Ivanovich Petrenko founded the museum based on his personal collection. In 1932 a Kolkhoz Museum was opened in the Ust-Labinskaya stanitsa, which contained 28,000 exhibits. They were lost during the Great Patriotic War. In 1951 Petrenko acquired new exhibits and opened a museum named after the Great Commander, but the local authorities transferred them to a museum in Kherson. In 1953 the museum was closed. In 1958 Petrenko opened the historical and local lore museum, which received municipal status in 1999. Today the museum consists of 18,000 exhibits and has six exhibition halls with permanent and temporary displays. The main museum building was constructed in the 19th century.
