Palace Telegraph Station Museum
About museum
In 1858, to a design by architect A. I. Shtakenshneider, the building of the palace telegraph station was constructed in Alexandria, part of the Kronstadt electromagnetic telegraph line. During the reign of Emperor Alexander II the telegraph network densely covered Russia. The museum features a Chappe model that clearly demonstrates how the optical telegraph worked, and the second floor traces the history of its development. On the first floor visitors can see the forms on which telegrams were submitted, as well as the apparatuses of S. Morse and D. Yuz, with which messages were delivered to different corners of Russia and beyond in minutes.
