I. S. Turgenev Museum
About museum
The Turgenev Museum was founded in 1918 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the great writer's birth. Over its nearly century-long history it has been the source of numerous literary museums in Russia, including the Museum of Oryol Writers, the N. S. Leskov House, the T. N. Granovsky House, the L. N. Andreyev House, and the I. A. Bunin Museum. After returning from evacuation in 1944, the museum was moved into two buildings in the Galakhov house, distant relatives of Turgenev, and into the mansion of I. F. Tibo-Briniol. Today the museum's main exhibition is located at 11 Turgenev Street. The Turgenev Museum is an important place for preserving Russia's literary heritage and recognizing the writer's significance.
