Museum of the Artist and Storyteller S. G. Pisakhov
About museum
The Museum of S. G. Pisakhov is not only a place to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of his time, but also a call to enlightenment and to uplift the spirit.
The S. G. Pisakhov Museum, located in a 19th-century architectural monument, is dedicated to the work of the artist, writer, traveler, teacher and ethnographer Stepan Grigoryevich Pisakhov (1879–1960). It presents around 300 of his paintings and graphic works depicting the nature of the Arkhangelsk region, as well as letters, manuscripts, books, personal belongings and photographs of the artist. In March 2021 the museum was reopened after a decade of restoration work. It features an original doll by Elena Dikova, illustrations by Aleksey Grigoriev, audiovisual installations, and objects of urban culture and everyday folk life. The museum's eight halls have their own sculptural, color and lighting schemes and are accompanied by quotations from Pisakhov's letters, articles, tales and travel notes.
