About museum

The museum named after Professor M. M. Kozhov is a university museum and is part of the Department of Hydrobiology and Invertebrate Zoology of Irkutsk State University. It was established by several generations of scientists and students of the Faculty of Biology and Soil Sciences under the leadership of Boris Svarchevsky and Mikhail Kozhov. The museum presents items of Baikal fauna, as well as marine, freshwater and terrestrial invertebrates from other regions of the world. Other exhibits include a collection of paintings by B. I. Lebedinsky, the memorial room of Prof. M. M. Kozhov, and an entomology cabinet. The museum's total holdings exceed 8,000 items, of which 2,500 are on display in the exhibition, and the scientific-auxiliary collection contains 5,000 items.
