Keramarh Museum of Architectural Decorative Ceramics
About museum
The first Museum of Architectural Decorative Ceramics in Russia, "Keramarh", opened in October 2018.
The museum's exhibition presents the history of the development of decorative ceramics in architecture and interior decoration from the 18th to the early 20th century. It is based on two collections: the Architectural Details Fund of the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg and the collection of Konstantin Likholat, the initiator and director of the Keramarh museum.
There are more than 700 exhibits in total, 90% of which were restored by the Pallada company. Among the exhibits are works by architects A. P. Bryullov, F. I. Lidval, A. I. Shtakenshneider, W. Ulberg, as well as the well-known ceramic artist P. K. Vaulin, and samples of architectural ceramics produced by leading Russian and European manufacturers: the L. Bonafede Ceramic Workshop, the M. S. Kuznetsov Porcelain and Faience Manufacturing Partnership, the Heldwein–Vaulin Artistic-Ceramic Production, the Rakkolanioki pottery works, the Abo Factory, Ernst Taichert's Saxon stove factory in Meissen, and others.
Some unique ceramic art pieces were rescued from dilapidated old mansions; others survived from churches lost and demolished during the Soviet era; there are exhibits that have not been displayed for more than 30 years.
The museum cooperates with the State Multicenter for Labor and Social Integration, where the construction and restoration company Pallada (one of the museum's founders) equipped a full-scale ceramics production workshop for people with disabilities.
