E. S. Anninsky Museum of Archaeology
About museum
The E. S. Anninsky Museum of Archaeology houses over 3,000 exhibits acquired by E. S. Anninsky during his study of rock paintings in the middle reaches of the Yenisei. The museum's collections include more than 260 rubbings, which form a unique collection with copies of the famous pre‑Yenisei rock paintings (pisanitsy), including the Shaman Stone and the Large and Small Boyarskiye pisanitsy. Rock art provides insight into the cultural level and everyday life of the peoples of the Middle Yenisei; therefore the archaeology hall displays examples of monuments from different periods, from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages: a mammoth sculpture (the oldest sculptural depiction of a mammoth), a calendar stone (about 30,000 years old), a stone idol (c. 3000 BCE), rings from the Karasuk hoard, stylized depictions of female figures from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages, and a medieval lunar calendar.
