Gorodets on the Volga Museum
About museum
The Gorodets District Museum presents vivid events from the life of the town. The museum building once served as a primary school for girls and as the treasury. Here you can see items and documents of the Gorodets Volunteer Fire Society, including a banner. Visitors learn about how the townspeople took part in World War I: they fought at the front and helped refugees and the wounded on the home front. The museum also tells about the extensive philanthropy of Gorodets merchants, who built a children's shelter and funded it from their own means. On the museum's second floor there is a memorial complex dedicated to pilots from the Gorodets District who died in World War II. At the museum you can learn about the history of your town and read the stories of the people who lived here before us.
