Novoshakhtinsk Historical and Local History Museum

The Municipal Budgetary Cultural Institution "Novoshakhtinsk Historical and Local History Museum" was established on February 23, 1972. The initiators of its organization were educators and war veterans Alexander Iosifovich Pushkarenko and F. G. Samsonov. The museum was initially housed in the Palace of Culture of the V. I. Lenin mine. After the building was transferred to the Novoshakhtinsk branch of the Shakhty Regional College of Fuel and Energy named after Academician P. I. Stepanov, the museum was moved to the building of Secondary School No. 2 in the Nesvetaevsky settlement. The museum's total area is 443.5 sq. m, of which exhibition space is 243.8 sq. m and the storage (collections repository) is 28.3 sq. m. It has five exhibition halls, as well as the 'Numismatics', 'Art' and 'Science and Technology' departments. The museum's holdings include 11 collections, including archaeology, painting, sculpture, ethnography, applied arts, weapons, numismatics, documents, photography, a natural science collection and a scientific auxiliary fund.
