Alexander Varentsov's Workshop-Museum of Realist Painting
About museum
The history of the workshop-museum began in August 2012. For several years, step by step and at their own expense, the artists — founders of the workshop-museum: Honored Artist of the Russian Federation A.A. Varentsov and artist, teacher, PhD in Art History S.V. Akifyeva — carried out work to clear, repair and transform the rented spaces of the former workshops of the Novgorod local branch of the All‑Russian Society of the Blind, which had been damaged by fire.
In September 2015 the Alexander Varentsov Workshop-Museum of Realist Painting was opened.
Currently the workshop-museum's collection comprises about 130 paintings, graphic and sculptural works by A.A. Varentsov, as well as photographs, books and manuscript sources. In the two active creative studios of A.A. Varentsov and S.V. Akifyeva, in the artist's natural working environment, no fewer than 100 paintings from different years, watercolors and book illustrations are exhibited simultaneously.
The workshop-museum regularly hosts thematic exhibitions (approximately 30 exhibitions have been held from 2015 to the present), interregional educational museum projects for creative young people and teachers of fine arts, master classes for tourists, regular creative sessions for children and adults, family workshops, creative meetings with artists, home concerts, etc.
