Parfenyevsky Local History Museum
About museum
A native of the village of Meledino in Parfenyevsky District and a self-taught artist, Pavel Nikolaevich Ukhov became the initiator of the gallery's creation. Interaction with Moscow artists prompted him to introduce his fellow villagers to art; over three years (1965–1968) he brought 350 works of art to Parfenyevo and donated 340 of his own paintings and graphic works to the gallery. On April 29, 1968, the picture gallery was opened in the building of the district executive committee, and in November 1970 it was moved to more suitable premises. In 2005 the museum was included as a branch in the Kostroma State Historical-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve. The gallery's exhibitions are devoted to the life and work of S. V. Maksimov, the history of the village of Parfenyevo, and merchant furniture of the 19th–early 20th centuries. Pavel Nikolaevich Ukhov, originally from the village of Meledino in Parfenyevsky District, thanks to his contacts with Moscow artists, decided to create a picture gallery in his homeland in order to introduce the local population to art.
