Kataysk District Local History Museum
About museum
The museum is located in the merchant mansion of Alexey Ivanovich Petrov, built in 1881. He formerly lived on Sadovaya Street (now Sverdlova St.). In 1973 the museum was opened on a voluntary basis thanks to the efforts of local enthusiasts and local historians. The museum houses over 12,000 exhibits across 10 halls, donated by townspeople. Among them are medieval women's jewelry, antique household items of Cossacks and peasants, prehistoric tools and other interesting objects. In 2008 a hoard belonging to merchant A. I. Petrov — 320 copper coins — was found on the estate and can also be seen in the museum.
