About museum

The G.A. Tsagolov Historical and Memorial House-Museum is part of the National Museum of the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania as a branch. The building that houses the museum was constructed in 1904 and currently has the status of a cultural heritage site of republican significance. The museum was established in 1959 and comprises two buildings: the Tsagolov family house itself and a building with an exhibition on the history of the town of Digora and the Digorsky District.

In the memorial part of the museum — the Tsagolov family ancestral home — documents, photographs and personal belongings of G.A. Tsagolov are displayed. Interiors of the living rooms have been recreated based on original household items and furniture. The richly eventful history of the town of Digora is reflected in thematic sections of the exhibition, arranged in a separate building.

In 2011, a wartime dugout was reconstructed in the museum yard as a fragment of the defensive structures erected in the autumn of 1942 on the approaches to Digora. The authentic exhibits presented here (shell casings, examples of uniforms, field bags and helmets, canteens, a record player, a working gramophone, etc.) allow visitors to experience the atmosphere of wartime.

The total number of items in the collection is 11,578.
