P. P. Chistyakov House-Museum
About museum
The P. P. Chistyakov House-Museum is one of the most significant sites in Pushkin, opened on April 26, 1987. It belonged to the painter of historical subjects and portraitist P. P. Chistyakov, a professor of the Imperial Academy of Arts, who taught prominent masters of Russian culture such as Repin, Polenov, Surikov, Vasnetsov, Savinsky, Serov, Vrubel, Ryabushkin, Borisov-Musatov and others. The dacha was built in 1876 to a design by architect A. Kh. Kolb, and the decorative carving in the interiors was executed from drawings by Chistyakov and his wife Vera Egorovna. The building is notable for its festive appearance thanks to decorative carved window surrounds, cornices and original weather vanes in the form of fairy-tale roosters. More than 40 years of Chistyakov's life were connected with Tsarskoye Selo and his house. He died in this house on November 11, 1919, and a memorial plaque was installed in 1929. The modern museum allows visitors to experience the atmosphere of the long-past 'city of muses' and to connect with the past of the artist-teacher, creator, philosopher and worker.
