Balakhna Museum-Historical and Art Complex
About museum
The main building of the Balakhna Museum-Historical and Art Complex was constructed in the second half of the 19th century. It belonged to Alexander Alekseevich Plotnikov, a first-guild merchant, city mayor and shipbuilder. In 1926 the building became home to Sberbank. In 1994 its owner became JSC "Nizhegorodpromstroybank", which used the premises as its Balakhna branch. In October 2012 the building was transferred to the museum-historical-and-art complex to house exhibitions, in particular: "Archaeology", "A. A. Plotnikov's Study", "Balakhna — a County Town", "The Balakhna Estates of the Sheremetevs", "Icons of Balakhna", "Balakhna Lace Style", "Back to the USSR" and the Alexandrovsky Exhibition Hall. The lace-making workshop "Balakhna Patterns" also operates in the building. It is a three-storey mansion with a basement. In 2020 repair and restoration work was carried out on the façade. The building is a regional cultural heritage site.
