The distinguished philologist and philosopher A.F. Losev lived in this house from 1941 to 1988. On September 23, 2004, on A.F. Losev's birthday, the Library of the History of Russian Philosophy and Culture 'A.F. Losev House' was officially opened in the Arbat house where the philosopher lived for almost half a century.
It holds A.F. Losev's 11,000-volume memorial book collection. The library is public, free of charge, and specialized. Anyone aged 14 and over may come here, regardless of their place of registration or citizenship. The library's scholarly value lies in the particular composition of its holdings. A large amount of specialized literature has been gathered here, and it is this that forms the basis of A.F. Losev's collection. On September 23, 2006, a monument to A.F. Losev was unveiled in the library's courtyard. The exhibition 'I Was Exiled to the 20th Century' is on permanent display at the library.
