Exhibition 'Sables and Poplars' by Olga Panchenko

The CK19 Cultural Center presents a solo exhibition by Olga Panchenko, 'Sables and Poplars'. The exhibition features more than 80 works.\r\n\r\n'The title 'Sables and Poplars' comes from the name of one of the works shown in the exhibition and, I hope, sounds familiar and understandable to Novosibirsk residents. ... The displayed works combine regional motifs, subtle humor and self-irony built on well-known stereotypes about Siberia,' says the exhibition's author Olga Panchenko.\r\n\r\nThe neck scarves on display were created as part of the Siberian Kitsch project. The collection is built on illustrations of a grotesque rhyme composed of the names of representatives of Siberian fauna and flora: 'Sables and Poplars', 'Cats and Cloudberries', 'Dragonflies and Birches', 'Titmice and Lungworts', etc. The designs incorporate stylized character images and ornamental compositions based on Siberian motifs.\r\n\r\nIn addition to textiles, the exhibition includes several series of graphic works as well as posters (previously exhibited at all-Russian and international exhibitions).\r\n\r\n'Within this project the author demonstrates various aspects of existence in the urban space. ... Ways of the designer's visual presence in the city. We see a poster with its noisy, assertive and bright statements, textiles with an embedded graphic code expressing the eternal desire of a woman to be original and noticeable, and delicate lyrical graphics as a reflection of the inner world,' clarifies the creator of Siberian Kitsch, Oleg Semyonov.\r\n\r\nWith the exhibition 'Sables and Poplars' the author expresses admiration for her beloved city, shaping a positive image of Novosibirsk for visitors and presenting a unique souvenir with regional identity.\r\n\r\nThe exhibition runs until May 30, 2024.
