Vanavara Branch of the Evenki Local History Museum

About museum

In 2008 the ceremonial opening of the Vanavara Branch of the Evenki Local History Museum was held; it was established under the leadership of Vanavara resident Rimma Aleksandrovna Pirogova. In April 2007 the collection of documents and materials about the Tungusko-Chunsky district began; these were provided by residents of the villages of Vanavara, Strelka-Chunya, Mutoray, Oskoba and Chemdalsk. The museum complex 'Open-Air Camp', located in a building constructed in 1934 and previously used for administrative purposes, features exhibitions on the region's history, the culture and everyday life of the indigenous population, as well as on the first researcher of the Tunguska phenomenon, Leonid Alekseyevich Kulik. The museum houses photographic documents and materials about the historical monument — the site of the Tunguska meteorite fall. Each year rare, historically valuable items and materials related to the history of the Tungusko-Chunsky district are added to the branch's collections.
