Exhibition 'Provincial Art. 18th - first half of the 19th century'
About exhibition
The exhibition features over 120 works that entered the collection of the State Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve in the 1920s. The estate portrait developed along two main directions: an official line — a broad, encyclopedic presentation of prominent figures in Russian history — and a family gallery depicting members of a household. This is well illustrated by the portrait gallery from the Andreyevskoye estate of the prominent Vorontsov-Dashkov noble family. An interesting stratum of urban culture is represented by the merchant portrait. A number of unknown artists created the portrait of an entire era and of a particular social class. Religious painting in the museum's collection is represented by portraits of clergymen, locally venerated saints, and genre compositions depicting scenes from biblical stories.
