P.F. Shardakov Comprehensive Art and Local History Museum
About museum
The museum was established in November 1987 as a district people's museum. In February 2001 the Okhansky District Local History Museum was registered, and in 2011 it became the city local history museum. In 2019 it was incorporated into the Center for Educational and Museum Activities.
The P.F. Shardakov Art Gallery occupies 7 exhibition halls. About 300 canvases by Honored Artist of Russia P.F. Shardakov are on display here. In total, the museum's collections contain about 600 of his works.
The museum's seven halls house exhibitions related to the history of the Okhansky District, significant events, and the activities of notable individuals: "From Okhani to Okhansk" — the history of the town's founding; "Hall of Military and Labor Glory of the Okhansky District" — four thematic exhibitions; the exhibition "Teacher, Photographer, Local Historian" — about Y.N. Permyakov; the exhibition "Scientist, Designer, Inventor…" — about P.K. Oshchepkov; the exhibition "Soviet Apartment" — a museum of Soviet everyday life of the 1960s–1980s; "The World Is Not So Simple" — an exhibition of paintings by N.G. Prokayeva. There is also a children's museum center "Russian Chamber" with an art space "Creative Workshop".
