About museum

Currently the Zoological Museum of PGSGA is one of the largest natural history museums in the Volga Region. It showcases the rich diversity of the animal world; the exhibition features 61 systematic showcases and 22 ecological dioramas. The specimens collected here represent more than 15,000 species of animals and plants, including 60 species listed in the Red Book of the Samara Region and of Russia. The museum hosts guided tours, lectures, and university student classes. Anyone may visit it to learn about the rich diversity of animals and plants from different countries and continents. The history of the museum dates back to 1929, when the first head of the Department of Zoology was Professor Gennady Geliarovich Shtrekher. It was then that the foundations of the museum were laid, and it still offers visitors an insight into the animal world.
