Zhelannovsky Local History Museum
About museum
In 1958 a small local history corner was created at the Zhelannov seven-year school, which later developed into the Zhelannovsky Local History Museum. In 1961 it became a people's public rural museum, and in 1968 it acquired the status of a state branch of the Ryazan Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve. In 1996 the museum became an independent district institution. A separate building was constructed for it, where it is still located today. The museum houses over 16,000 items of material and spiritual culture of the Shatsky region: archaeological finds, ethnographic exhibits, documents, photographs, graphic works and paintings. The museum includes departments of nature, regional history, art and geology. In addition, it hosts the annual district song festival and the village celebration "Under the Blue Sky of Zhelannov's Expanses." The museum is also home to two interesting "exhibits" — the camel Vasily and the donkey Masha, who are very popular with visitors.
