About museum
On July 29, 2017, the Museum of Russian History was opened in the town of Chaplygin. It is located in a restored house of 100 sq. m., where the well-known Russian historian, teacher and publicist Dmitry Ivanovich Ilovaisky was born. He became famous for his gymnasium textbooks, which were used throughout Russia for many decades. Dmitry Ivanovich's step-granddaughter was the famous Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva. The museum features an exhibition consisting of four halls. In the first hall, banners display portraits of Russia's rulers who governed the country and developed the people over many centuries. The second hall presents information about the life and work of great Russian historians: N. M. Karamzin, S. M. Solovyov, D. I. Ilovaisky. The museum is visited by people from all corners of Russia — residents of rural settlements, enterprises, organizations, schools and other regions.
