Velimir Khlebnikov Museum
About museum
The village of Ruchyi in the Krestetsky District is famous for being the last refuge of “the first chairman of the globe” — the poet Velimir Khlebnikov. In 1986, on the anniversary of his death, the first Khlebnikov museum in Russia was opened in the village of Santalovo in the Krestetsky District. In 1993 the Khlebnikovs' house-museum opened in Astrakhan. The oldest resident of Santalovo, Evdokia Lukinichna Stepanova, provided great assistance in establishing the museum. A monument stands on the poet's grave, created by USSR State Prize laureate, sculptor Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Klykov. Every year Khlebnikov readings are held in Ruchyi, attracting poets, writers, teachers, artists, and devoted admirers of the poet's work. The museum houses more than 400 exhibits; guided tours are conducted and correspondence has been established with other museums across Russia. In addition, a bibliographic video film about Khlebnikov was produced.
