The Volsky Local History Museum is one of the largest museums in Russia, founded in 1920. The museum's collection comprises over 93,000 items, including collections in geology and paleontology, botany and zoology, archaeology and numismatics, as well as various collections of painting, sculpture, decorative and applied arts, weapons and books. Nearly 40,000 people visit the museum annually; tours and exhibitions are held. Museum staff take part in expeditions and meet with interesting people, combining activities of collecting, curating and studying exhibits. The museum also carries out cultural and educational activities, develops new educational programs, and organizes lectures, clubs and salons. The museum actively participates in Russian and international projects in various cities.
