About museum
In 1972 the Borogonsky Museum was established as a district museum run by the community. In 1980, by decision of the executive committee of the district Council of People's Deputies, it was reorganized into a people's museum. In 1987 the museum was granted the status of a branch of the Yakutsk Museum of History and Culture of the Peoples of the North named after E.M. Yaroslavsky. In 2020, by decision of a session of the district Council of Deputies, the museum was given the name of the prominent socio-political figure of Yakutia from the late 18th – early 19th century, head of the Borogonsky ulus A.I. Arzhakov — Sesen Ardyakyap. Director — Dyulustan Mikhailovich Zabolotsky. The museum's work consists of local-history research and field activities aimed at fostering civic and patriotic qualities in individuals, and at studying the history of their people, its origins, traditions, and customs. The main focus is on building the collections, creating conditions to maintain the preservation of museum collections and items, and establishing documentation and record-keeping. As of January 2020 the holdings total 17,577 storage units. Of these, the main collection comprises 6,924 units, and the scientific-supporting collection 10,653. The museum fund includes collections of paleontology, ethnography, painting, medicine, education, sports, agriculture, and others.
