Unecha Art Gallery
About museum
The idea of creating an art gallery in Unecha had been around for a long time. Artist Nikolai Ivanovich Kholoshchak became head of the organizing committee. The district administration supported the idea by providing premises and resolving staffing issues. As a result, the art gallery was opened on September 23, 1998. It employs eight staff members and one research worker, and the initial collection comprised 53 works. The main tasks of the gallery are: preservation and collection of the artistic valuables of the Unecha district, research activities, and the promotion of fine art. The collection is notable for including works by local artists donated during plein-air events, as well as paintings by Yuri Ivanovich Sakhanov. In addition to exhibiting and studying its holdings, the gallery runs educational programs. As of early 2018, the museum held 1,829 items, of which 929 were included in the main collection.
