Andrei Andreyevich Savvin

Andrei Andreyevich Savvin was a folklorist and ethnographer. He was born in the Boltoginsky nasleg of the Yakutsk region and studied at the Yakut Real School. From 1920 Savvin worked in Soviet institutions. From 1929 to 1937 he worked as a teacher. In 1937 he took the position of inspector of the Society for the Study of the Yakut ASSR and began working at the Institute of Language and Culture under the Council of People's Commissars of the Yakut ASSR.
As part of expeditions, Savvin collected folklore materials and conducted dialect research. Together with S. I. Bolo he worked in the Vilyuysk group of districts (1938–1939), where he personally recorded olonkho from well-known olonkhosuts (olonkho performers). Later, in 1939–1940, Savvin took part in the Northern Expedition, which covered the Verkhoyansky, Abyysky and Allaikhovsky uluses. In his later years he headed the Churapchinsky District local history museum. Andrei Andreyevich Savvin died on 31 May 1951.
