Kandalaksha City History Museum
About museum
In 1971, at the initiative of the residents of Kandalaksha, a people's city museum was founded, and its first director was Ivan Fedorovich Stepanov. In 1974 it became part of the Murmansk Regional Museum of Local Lore and became the city's history department. The head of the department was Lyudmila Vladimirovna Dubrovskaya. In 2000 the department was transferred to the city administration and a new period of activity began. Currently the museum houses two permanent exhibitions: 'Pomors' Trades and Everyday Life' and 'Combat Operations on the Kandalaksha Front'. The museum also hosts themed exhibitions, museum classes and lectures on local history. The Kandalaksha City History Museum has become an example for other museums and allows visitors to learn about the city's history and the Pomors' trades.
