\r\nThe Taganrog Historical and Local History Museum was established by a decision of the City Duma on June 22, 1898. It is located in the house of N. D. Alferaki — an object of cultural heritage of regional significance. The building was constructed in 1848 to a design by the well-known St. Petersburg architect A. I. Shtakenshneider in an eclectic style. In 1927 the building was transferred to the museum. Restoration work was carried out in 1989–1996, which made it possible to restore the palace's original appearance. In 1995–1996 the exhibition was opened. The museum presents the history of Taganrog and its surroundings, as well as works of art, art exhibitions, reconstructions, and interactive programs. Visitors can take an overview tour to learn more about Taganrog.
