Stroganov Palace
About museum
The Stroganov Palace, built to a design by architect F. B. Rastrelli in 1753-1756, is one of the finest examples of Russian Baroque architecture and a magnificent monument of 18th-century residential architecture. It belonged to the well-known Stroganov family for almost two centuries. Later reconstructions and interior decorations were associated with architects such as A. Voronikhin, K. Rossi, P. Sadovnikov, G. Bosse, and others. In 1988 the palace was transferred to the State Russian Museum. Here you can see the enfilade of restored state rooms on the second floor, including the Large Dance Hall, the State Dining Room, the Arabesque Drawing Room, the Mineralogical Cabinet, and the Picture Gallery. The museum's exhibition features works from the Russian Museum's collections, as well as rare rock specimens from the famous Stroganov mineral collection. Temporary exhibitions are also held.
