Pyatigorsk Open-Air Museum of Stone Antiquities
About museum
An unusual exhibition that attracts many people has been on display for six years now at the Pyatigorsk Local History Museum. It recalls the story of the first Museum of Antiquities in the North Caucasus, which was closed 135 years ago. The site features ancient, medieval, and later historical monuments: crosses, stelae, parts of tombs, gravestones, cult stones, millstones, mortars, images and inscriptions on stones. All of them carry interesting historical and cultural information and originate from the territory of Stavropol Krai and other areas of the North Caucasus. Visitors can feel an amazing atmosphere and enter a world of myths, legends and mystical beliefs. In the center of the exhibition rises a mysterious three-meter “guardian of age-old culture” — a symbol of time bearing an undeciphered inscription. Visit the museum and form your own impressions.
