About museum
Skopin Historical and Local History Museum was founded in 1919, but in 1956 it was closed. Only 30 years later the museum reopened to visitors. It presents the history, everyday life and culture of the region from the 3rd–2nd millennium BC to the present day. The museum has 8 halls with a variety of exhibits. In the Antiquities Hall you can see mammoth tusks, bones of long-haired buffalo, tools of ancient people, fragments of pottery, etc. The Streltsy Hall displays weapons from the 15th–18th centuries, coins, and a life mask of Peter I. In the Peasant Life Hall you can see household items of Skopin peasants from the 19th century, women's peasant costumes, furniture, clothing, porcelain, etc. The museum also has halls dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, to miners, and to the area's artistic and theatrical activities.
