About museum

Ivan Fedorovich Konovalov – director of the Berezniki Historical and Local Lore Museum, local historian, participant in the Civil War. The future local historian was born into the family of a worker at the Motovilikhinsky Factory in the Perm Governorate. After receiving primary education at the Motovilikhinsky two-class school, he continued his studies at the Perm 2nd Men's Gymnasium. In his youth he worked as an assistant secretary at the Nizhne-Mullinsky volost executive committee, as a clerk at the Motovilikhinsky Factory, and then served in technical positions in the Perm Governorate Cheka. This was followed by work as a political controller of public entertainments and as a GPU commissioner for Usolsky Uyezd. In 1924 he served in the Kingisepp and Pskov border detachments of the GPU, and in 1925–1926 he was a commissioner of the secret department of the Verkhnekamsk district GPU and assistant commissioner of the GPU for the Urals. Due to health reasons he was forced to resign from the organs.

In subsequent years Konovalov held various positions in the civil sector: he worked as secretary and statistician of the Verkhnekamsk district trade bureau, statistician of the Verkhnekamsk district statistical bureau, executive secretary of the 'Down with Illiteracy' society under the Verkhnekamsk District Council, and temporarily acted as head and director of the Usolsky Museum until 1932. He then worked as an economist in the planning department of the Berezniki district executive committee. After completing interregional planning and economic courses he worked in the Berezniki city executive committee: senior economist of the planning department and later economist in the local industry department. In 1941 Konovalov was appointed manager of the Berezniki city industrial combine. In the postwar years his career continued in various managerial positions at the Berezniki nitrogen-fertilizer plant, in Oblkommunstroy, and in Molotovoblgrazhdanstroy. From 1954 to 1963 Konovalov served as director of the Berezniki Historical and Local Lore Museum, after which he worked there as a research associate until 1972. Ivan Fedorovich was awarded the medal 'For Valiant Labour in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945' and died on June 9, 1981.
