Regional Museum and Tourist Center of Northern Priladozhye

About museum

The Regional Museum of Northern Priladozhye is the only local history museum in the town of Sortavala. The historic building housing the museum was built in 1903 and is known as the city estate of Doctor Winter. The estate owner was known in Finland as a surgeon and public figure. The building has preserved its historic layout and facades and is included in the list of cultural and historical heritage of the Republic of Karelia. The main exhibition presents the history of Northern Priladozhye and its geological heritage. You can also see costumes of ancient Karelians and an exhibition dedicated to Karelian cuisine, where you can learn traditional recipes and try making them at home. The museum offers lectures and guided tours about the museum and Northern Priladozhye.
