Pugachyov Local History Museum named after K.I. Zhuravlev
About museum
On March 20, 1919, the Pugachyov Museum of Local Lore was opened. The museum's directors were Petr Illarionovich Penkov and Yefim Ivanovich Korenevsky. The museum collected old books of both types (church and secular), manuscripts, icons, portraits, engravings, maps, plans, various archives, as well as coins, weapons, and fossil animal bones found during excavations. By the resolution of the Pugachyov Executive Committee of February 20, 1919, manuscript and early-printed books, as well as church items (icons, vestments and other objects) from the abolished Irgiz monasteries began to be transferred to the museum.
